Abstract:

In order to analyze the coupling between antennas mounted on a smooth platform efficiently, a fast algorithm is introduced to evaluate the S-parameters. Firstly, this algorithm proposes to expand the radiated fields of an antenna by spherical harmonic transform (SHT). Then, evaluate the field scattered by the platform with uniform theory of diffraction (UTD). Finally, the S-parameter between two antennas is computed with the reciprocity theorem. It requires measuring or simulating every antenna only once to compute the S-parameter between a couple of antennas efficiently, even if the two antennas are rotated arbitrarily. The numerical example shows that the proposed algorithm is almost as accurate as the method of moments/UTD hybrid method of FEKO, and the former is faster than the latter.

Key words: S-parameter, reciprocity theorem, spherical harmonic transform (SHT), uniform theory of diffraction (UTD)
