Design of microwave ranging system for FAST feed cabin positioning

Abstract:

Five-hundred-meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST) is an important scientific device built in China in recent years. Its efficient operation depends on the high-precision positioning of the feed cabin. The current feed cabin positioning system based on total station ranging cannot work effectively in severe weather such as rain and fog, which reduces the working time of FAST. In this paper, a new scheme based on microwave ranging is proposed, which is expected to not only meet the positioning accuracy of feed cabin, but also significantly improve the operation efficiency of FAST, enabling it to work all weather and all day. In this paper, some key scientific problems to be solved in the microwave ranging positioning system are studied deeply, and the system scheme and technical route are given preliminarily.
